On the majority of MacBook models we repair the screen by refurbishing your existing display. We fit a brand new LCD panel into your original lid, so you keep your original housing, hinges and camera, and the cost stays at a fraction of what a brand new complete display assembly would cost.
Because your original lid is opened and the new panel is bonded back in, very minor traces of the work can occasionally be present, most commonly a small amount of adhesive at the edge of the screen. This is cosmetic only, it does not affect the picture or the strength of the repair, and it wipes away easily with an alcohol based cleaning fluid on a soft cloth.
A screen with absolutely no evidence of repair is only possible with a brand new complete display assembly at a considerably higher cost, and that difference is what our refurbishment price reflects. On some older MacBook models the screen is replaced as a complete assembly instead, so the above applies where your MacBook is repaired with an LCD panel replacement.
The 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pro models use a mini LED display, where the picture is lit by a layer of thousands of tiny LEDs behind the panel, grouped into zones that brighten and dim independently. A very slight shading or vignette near the border of the screen is a known characteristic of this design, and even brand new machines straight from Apple can show a hint of it on a plain bright background.
At the factory, Apple calibrates each backlight to the exact panel it is built with, so the dimming zones and the panel work together as a matched pair, and that calibration can only be redone with Apple’s own software as part of fitting a complete new display assembly.
During our screen refurbishment the original backlight and its factory calibration stay in place and a brand new LCD panel is fitted over them, so on rare occasions the natural shading at the border can be a touch more noticeable than it was with the original panel. It comes from the existing backlight rather than the new panel, it is purely cosmetic, and it makes no difference to everyday use.
